• BIPV Consultant for United Solar Ovonics (UNI-SOLAR) and Solar Integrated Technologies (SIT), Nov. 2003 to June 2004. Responsibilities in product development and sales.
• Director of BIPV for UNI-SOLAR, April 2001 to Oct. 2003. Responsibilities in sales, marketing and product development. Secured $1.6 million grant through the California Energy Commission, Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program for the development of a new PV laminate roofing system. Managed new product development work through the PIER program. Made product improvements on existing product line.
• Inventor: Developed five patents on BIPV products for United Solar Ovonics and now has patent pending on new BIPV product
• Education: B.A. Architecture from Arizona State University, Lifetime Community Collage Teaching Credential, Trained and certified over 100 solar installers on the installation of UNI-SOLAR BIPV products. Co-taught seminar for the National Roofing Contractors Association promoting integration of the solar and roofing industries. Instructor and presenter for the Solar Living Institute and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) 1993 - present
• Media: Steve Heckeroth is a contributing editor to the Mother Earth News (MEN). His extensive writing on solar energy has been published in MEN, Home Power, Solar Today and many other regional publications. His work has been featured on national and international TV and in magazines and books since 1992.
• Solar Design and Installer: Designed and built over two dozen passive solar homes 1975 -1995. Received national award for the design and construction of a home on the Northern California coast from the Energy Efficient Building Association and the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association in 1992. Designed and installed the first privately funded installation of UNI-SOLAR building integrated PV roofing 1996. Designed and sold over 100 kW of UNI-SOLAR BIPV installations in 1998 – 2000, which was half of installations of that product in world at the time.
• Electric Vehicle Designer: Designed and built over two dozen electric vehicles 1992 – Present, including 4 electric Porsche Spyders and 11 electric tractors.
• Solmetric Corp. Advisory Board member and Chair of ASES RFST Division.
