Renewables Moves Toward e2T Pre-Orders as Electric Tractor Crowdfunding Campaign Nears Close

The company is preparing the e2T for an accelerated production phase following early field use, reservation interest, and inbound demand from farms, universities, teaching farms, and international markets.

A Compact Electric Tractor for Smaller Farms and Land Managers The e2T is designed as an affordable, zero-emission, remote-controlled tractor platform for farms and land-management operations where full-size equipment can be too expensive, too heavy, or too difficult to maneuver. The machine is built around a compact over-the-bed design intended to reduce soil compaction while supporting work across diversified farms, greenhouses, agrivoltaic sites, parks, roadsides, fire-break areas, and municipal land-management environments. The e2T platform includes remote control operation, instant torque from an electric drivetrain, compatibility with existing legacy implements, swappable battery packs, and optional accessories such as transplanting and harvesting seats, a solar shade canopy, and a 10-horsepower Power Take Off (PTO). The company believes the platform can help address several pressures facing small farms and land-management operators, including fuel-price volatility, equipment maintenance costs, agricultural labor constraints, greenhouse gas emissions, and the need for machinery that can operate in lower-clearance environments such as agrivoltaic installations. “Small farms have been overlooked by the equipment market for too long,” said Steve Heckeroth, founder and CEO of Renewables. “We believe there is a real opportunity to give farmers and land managers a machine that is cleaner, easier to operate, and better suited to the work they actually need done.”

Renewables Changes the Landscape for Small Farms with Electric Tractors

Two-wheel tractors more sustainable than diesel, more productive than hand tools

Renewables is building around a part of the tractor market that larger equipment manufacturers have often overlooked: small farms, greenhouses, teaching farms, specialty crop operations, and land managers that need practical machinery without the size or cost of full-scale agricultural equipment. For decades, tractor innovation has mostly been measured in horsepower, size, and how much land a machine can cover in a day. That logic works for large commodity farms, where scale is the business model. But a different part of agriculture has a different problem. Small farms and diversified growers often do not need the largest machine available. They need something affordable, maneuverable, easier to maintain, and practical for repeated work in tight spaces. In many of those settings, the future of farm equipment may not begin with replacing the biggest diesel tractors. It may begin with smaller electric machines designed for the jobs large equipment was never built to do well. That is the market opening Renewables is trying to address with the e2T, a compact electric tractor platform designed for small farms, greenhouses, agrivoltaics, municipal work, and land-management applications.

Steve Heckeroth’s Long Road to the Electric Tractor

When Steve Heckeroth saw a cement block hanging off the back of a tractor at a county fair, something clicked.

When Steve Heckeroth saw a cement block hanging off the back of a tractor at a county fair, something clicked. At the time, Heckeroth had already spent years thinking about solar power, electric vehicles, and the challenge of moving away from fossil fuels. He had built electric cars in an era when batteries were heavy, expensive, and difficult to package. In a passenger vehicle, that weight was a problem. It reduced efficiency, complicated design, and made electric transportation harder to scale. But the tractor at the county fair made him look at the problem differently. Tractors need weight. They rely on traction to pull, push, lift, cultivate, mow, and work soil. The cement block was not wasted weight. It was functional weight. To Heckeroth, that changed the equation. If tractors already needed mass, then battery weight could become part of the machine’s advantage rather than a limitation. That idea has shaped much of his career since.
